Should school attendance be mandatory? In your answer, be sure to explore what the function of education is, and what our nation would look like if the masses were less educated.

I believe school attendance should not be mandatory. The reason I believe this is, because there is a lot of students who slack off and only downgrade our school. Attending school is important but some students do not intend to go to school. If a student really wants to study and obtain an education then they will attend school without being forced to. I believe education is important and should be provided to he who desires it. If they really want to receive one they'll work hard to and make use of the education offered.

If you could choose two things to change about our high school campus, what would they be and why?

If I could change two things about my high school I would change the schedule, and the way the principal runs the school. To begin with I would like to change the schedule, because 3 hours is to much time to be in one class. Students tend to loose focus and don't cooperate in class assignments. I believe if the schedule was the same as it used to be then grades would improve. I would also like to change the way the principal runs the school. She has set tardy sweeps which is that if your late your assigned Saturday school. I understand they want to discipline us and want us to get to school on time, but what I find ridiculous sis that in Saturday school we have to be quiet and sit still for 4 hours which in my belief is ridiculous. I hope they would listen to our petition and change those two things, but I know that they won't listen to us.

Explain a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

A significant experience I've gone through is loosing my Grandfather. He died when I was only 5 years old. I was very close to him, unfortunately he got cancer and past away. That changed my live because he was like a father figure to  me since I don't have one. My father left when I was 1 and never cared to look for me. I am glad that my grandpa was always there when i was little and spoiled me as much as he had the chance. I am now always in a somber mood when it comes to seeing other girl's with their dad's or grandparents. I wish to have had him for longer but he was old and at least he didn't die in pain that I am grateful for.

Please describe your reactions/ideas to the following quote: "He does not possess wealth, it possesses him."

I agree with this quote, not because I believe its correct but because I know that wealthy people tend not to be happy and are only focused on their ambition. I also believe that ambitious people tend to focus only on money and loose themselves in it. They separate from their family and don't really live their lives.

Write a letter to your future college roommate introducing yourself and your background.

Dear future collage roommate,
My name is Elizabeth, I am going to be your roommate. I wanted to introduce myself and tell you a little about my background. I have lived in Chula Vista, CA my entire life. I have 4 brothers and 2 sisters, I am the youngest of 7. I am Mexican therefore I am fluent in Spanish, as well as English. I plan to become a Neuropsychologyst and am determined to get my PhD. I am very chill, and tend to laugh a lot. I am crazy (not in a bad way) and friendly. I listen to any type of music so we wont have any issues with that. I like to read so I appreciate a little alone time once in a while. I like to talk and am a great listener, I will help with whatever I can and be there if you need me. I tend to be sarcastic so I hope you don't take it in a bad way. I like to watch chick flicks, horror, comedy, and action movies. I like to go out a lot and would like for you to accompany me, since I don't know anyone in New York. I am also very down to earth, and don't believe that there is such a thing as living a perfect life with a perfect guy, so if your looking for someone to tell you that he's perfect and will never hurt you, well I'm sorry to disappoint you but I don't think that way. I hope we will get a long and I'm looking forward to meeting you.

Your life is a movie. Describe the first 15 minutes.

If my life was a movie it would be:
 Location: Ithaca, New York
Time: 2013
She's an 18 year old girl from Chula Vista, CA named Isabella, she decides to go study at Cornell University of Medicine. She faces living on her own for the first time and struggles financially. She is to proud to ask her family for help. She decides to get a roommate. Her roommate is an only child and comes from a wealthy family, named Charlotte. Her roommate is really nice and attentive with her. Over time she becomes irresponsible and does not make her payments on time. Isabella begins to get exasperated and decides to ask her to leave. Charlotte gets aggravated and does some sort of witchcraft on Isabella. Isabella begins to be assaulted by complete strangers and everyone seems to want to harm her. Isabella calls Charlotte since she is the only one who she knows and asks her to come back. Charlotte moves back in to her apartment and demands Isabella to become her slave or she will leave her out on the streets alone. Isabella is afraid and agrees to Charlotte's petitions. After a few months Isabella tries to escape, unfortunately Charlotte was watching her every move and caught her. Charlotte hired someone to rape her and kill her. Charlotte kept the apartment and lived on with her cynical grotesque life and once again attacked another young unselfish girl sweeking a friend.

What is the best advice you've ever received? Explain.

The best advice I have ever received is to strive for a better future and education dismissing all negativity people inflict on you. I believe this is the best advice I have ever received, because I have been though that. When I let my family that I planned to go of to college in New York, and that I wanted to be a Neuropsychologist the response i got from them was "you will never make it why don't you just go to a small 2 year collage." My mom has never supported me in the choices I make, and constantly demonstrates a patronizing attitude. My sister was the one who supports me and tells me that I can achieve anything that I set my mind to as long as I stick with it. I look up to my sister and appreciate her support since no one else believes in me and think I am not intelligent enough to achieve a good career.

Given the authority to establish a holiday, what would you choose to commemorate? Why? What would the celebration look like?

If I had the authority to establish a holiday I would make a day where we commemorate teenagers. I choose this because teenagers are always stereotyped as irresponsible, immature, and rebellious. We are never appreciated for our good qualities. Therefore, there should be a day in which we are appreciated and allowed to prove to our piers what we are capable of. The celebration would be just like mothers day or fathers day. Our parents would show to us how important we are to them and convey all we do for them, and how responsible we can be. Teenagers go through a lot hormones, school, boyfriend or girlfriend problems, confidence, and self-esteem problems. All this accumulates and evokes in us insecurities and with adults telling us were immature all it does is degrade the way we think of ourselves. Finally,  that is why I would like to have a day where all teenagers are appreciated and given a break from all the stress we face.

quote!

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.”
― Marilyn Monroe
I chose this quote of course, because I am a great fan of her and her way of thinking. I applied this quote to myself since I have always believed that everything happens for a reason, and that it is up to us to learn from it. I also believe that we shouldn't spend a great amount of our time on people who don't deserve it. We as people need to learn to let go of those who have hurt us or have degraded us in any way. From that we learn to trust no one but ourselves. I believe that good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

If you could introduce one new idea or material thing to a primitive culture, what would it be?

If I could introduce one new idea into a primitive culture, I would introduce education. To begin with I would exemplify the importance of learning into their society, and convey to them literature from which they will obtain a culture. Education provides values and evoke knowledge and skills withing people. Education makes it possible to learn in new and fresh ways because it consists of not just the content found in textbooks, but also of valuable first-hand experience. Having an education builds up a personality, and exceeds your opportunities into a worthier future. Education is a vital key in life, and will be the what will help the country progress. It is also necessary for the advancement of a civilized society. In the case of a primitive culture it will be what rises their lives into an educated, sophisticated, and with further opportunities. I believe that having an education will improve their confidence, a better job, and more money, as well as opening doors for them to succeed in life. With education they will learn about themselves, and learn how to articulate who they are.

How have you tried to effect change in relation to an issue of personal, local, or national significance:

The way I try to effect change in relation to a personal issue is that I try to find the positive in everything that happens. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that good will come after. Teenagers in my belief struggle most with conflicts, i understand that adults have problems as well but teenagers are known to become depressed or do the wrong things as for an adult has more experience and can take control of a situation better than a teenager can. The reason I say this is because I am a teenager and the way I have an effect on problems is different. I talk with my friends and try to see what we could do in order to make our life  less stressful. We have to worry about college, where we are going to live, work, etc. All those problems can only be solved by analyzing it in detail and seeing the pros and cons. There really isn't a specific way of solving problems it depends on each person. As for me I don't really know how to have an effect on my problems I basically just try to maintain myself calm and avoid getting exasperated if there is no need to, and that i think helps in finding an appropriate solution.

1 million dollars

If I had the responsibility to decide where 1 million dollars should be spent to improve conditions somewhere in the world I would use it to help a continent in which they really need financial help for example Africa. Africa is a very poor  continent and is filled with malnutrition and lack of clean water. What I would do is start a foundation and get many volunteers to help those people who are sick and at risk of dying do to the grotesque way of living. My foundation would be dedicated to bring in food and clean water to those who need it the most. There is many deaths do to these causes as well as diseases spread through the unsanitary conditions. I would be determined to help as many people who are in need as possible and not waste millions of dollars on building a taller wall at the border, since in my opinion is a waste of money, they could really help those in need with that money. I would also ask for donations to increase the amount of money I can help them with.

History

I f I could go back in history and be one person I would want to be Helen Keller. Helen Keller achieved the ability to read and write. When she was young she became exasperated when she noticed that people communicated with their mouths and had the capacity to read and write without difficulty. her parents got her a tutor named Anne Sullivan. She taught Keller words by signing them into her hands. Therefore, Keller learned how to read and write Braille and Tacoma, both very difficult to do which is quite amazing. I admire her determination and patience to obtain these qualities and overcome the jealousy of not being able to hear or see like normal people. Keller helped set up the American foundation for the blind and a fervent socialist and suffragette. She was strong and overcame her disabilities, and helped many people who like her were deaf or blind. In addition, the reason I would choose to be Helen Keller is because she represent a vary brave, patient, and kind woman.

How have you taken something that you have learned in the classroom and integrated it into your nonacademic life?

Everything I have learned in the classroom I have integrated into my nonacademic life. I daily use rhetoric, as well as most of our vocabulary words to improve my was of speaking. I do not use the vocabulary words to seem pedantic, but to improve my way of expressing myself and articulating myself well. English is the subject we mostly use out of all school subjects, because it is the way we speak and express what we think. I apply it by using it when verbalizing my thoughts.

How does competition function in our society?

Competition in our society takes an extensive part of our lives, we compete against each other every day without even realizing it. If someone you know gets a raise or is given a higher level position at work you will always strive to be superior. I believe that sometimes competition is healthy, but if you exceed the limit  it becomes unhealthy and unsettles your mind. Competition is only healthy when you do it for yourself and not to surpass other people around us. Every day we strive to exceed others expectations or to be more distinguished than those who surround us. Therefore, competition takes a great part of our daily lives and inflicts on our personalities.

Describing a color to a blind person

What I would do to describe the color red to a blind person is relate it to food, since blind people are familiar with all sorts of food or other thing people associate with daily.
The color red is known to be an intense, hot, powerful, as well as an aggressive color. It is found in fire as well as flowers, birds, and many other living things. Blood, Apples, cherries, roses and stop signs are also the color red. Red is a color that draws your attention and that can cause many different ways on how you perceive it.
